from the readers One issue down, many to go! Y’all get major props in my book with your debut issue of Mindful Metropolis. As regular readers of Conscious Choice, my wife and I never knew much about the story other than the magazine was bought and was no longer local. Reading the publisher’s notes from your May issue inspired me to no end. I have told friends this phoenix-rising story several times in the past week. In essence, how you’ve gone back to being a local magazine de- spite corporate ignorance and greed. I sincere- ly hope this is a glimpse into the future where more operations return to their core business and local ownership as global slash-and-burn operations exhaust themselves and crawl away. Onward! —Philamonjaro, Chicago Congrats on the new publication. What a great way to use your talent, and deal with a bad situ- ation by seeing the door that opened, and by using a higher vision of your jobs and the cour- age to keep the talent and connection coming to our city! I’ve felt the same way as I am in an industry that is changing quickly and negative- ly focused, but I find that it’s very important to hold that higher vision. I can’t be a 100 percent all of the time but it’s a great goal to set and have that vision as a guiding light. Best of luck! —Lynn Reidl, Real Living Helios Realty, Chicago Thank you and congratulations for your opti- mism and your refusal to roll over under the on- slaught of “print is dead” chants. As a longtime magazine writer, editor and lover, I have held strong to the belief that the current media shake up will result not in the death of print, but in a renaissance of great small magazines created by people who are passionate about this unique and necessary form of journalism and entertainment. As one who has seen the dark side of pri- vate equity’s rampage through the magazine world, I am thrilled to see your team’s reaction. Magazines are perfectly suited to a sustainable business model, and what better place to start than with Mindful Metropolis.
